Mindfulness Meditation

Mindfulness meditation is a technique for focusing one’s awareness on the present moment. Moreover, it can help people deal with anxiety, depression, and pain by developing a sense of inner peace and acceptance. There are also many different ways to meditate. Yet, most mindfulness meditation techniques involve sitting quietly and concentrating on sensations in your body. Eventually, your attention will broaden to include all types of thoughts, feelings, and sensations. Equally important, you observe the present moment without getting caught up in any single thing.

Types of Mindfulness Meditation Training

Mindfulness meditation is the practice of paying attention to your thoughts and feelings with a non-judgmental attitude. By the same token, it can help reduce stress and anxiety and promote emotional stability. Indeed, there are many ways to practice mindfulness meditation, including body scan meditation, Vipassana meditation, breath awareness meditation, and more. The mindfulness meditation teacher training course at Aura Wellness Center teaches you how to teach mindfulness practices to others. Truly, you will teach in a way that’s beneficial for both teachers and students. Your course also teaches you about the foundations of mindfulness theory and practice.

Challenges of Meditation Practice

Three Classic Yoga Meditation Types

By Dr. Paul Jerard, E-RYT 500, YACEP

Some of the best methods for meditation can be found in the classic Yoga meditation types. There are many different Yogic lineages, which result in a variety of Yoga meditation techniques. Sometimes, these techniques vary, depending on the creator, tradition, and teacher. Meditation techniques often combined with pranayama and Yoga asanas, help bring the mind to states of tranquility. They will lower your stress and anxiety levels. Ultimately, they will connect you with the simmering divinity at the core of your own being. Meditation teacher training courses will go much deeper into every aspect.

Mindfulness (Awareness) Meditation

One of the classic Yoga meditation types is the practice of mindfulness meditation. This form of meditation rests on the art of becoming deeply present and aware of what is here, right now. As a Yoga student, you are constantly reminded to check in with yourself and see exactly how you are feeling, both physically and emotionally. In order to do this, you must focus on what is happening at this very moment, without judgment.

Results of Practice

As you practice this form of meditation, you will become aware of physical sensations, pains, aches, and feelings. Furthermore, your mind calms with steady meditation practice. As you become intimately aware of what is happening, you can apply your practice to your daily life.

Breath Awareness Meditation

Another classic Yoga meditation form is to simply watch your breath. All you have to do is sit comfortably on a chair or on the floor, close your eyes, and begin to watch your breath, as you inhale and exhale, and inhale and exhale, and inhale and exhale again. By this point, your mind will most likely begin to wander. Slowly and gently, let go of the thoughts and focus again on your breath.

Where and How

You can do this meditation practice almost anywhere unless you are driving. When you are driving, you can focus on your breath – just don’t close your eyes! Above all, if your mind wanders uncontrollably, you may want to take the aid of a mantra or sacred word. A mantra is a sacred word, or phrase, that you repeat either silently or aloud, during your meditation practice. For instance, you may have received an enlivened mantra from your Guru. Additionally, you may choose a mantra with which you personally resonate.

Mantra Meditation / Koan Meditation

Meditating on a divine concept, or a mantra is another classic Yoga meditation technique. However, this form of meditation is difficult and requires a teacher for optimum success. Uniquely, an uplifting spiritual concept is a wonderful meditative focal point. It will help to quiet and uplift your mind. A Japanese koan (a paradoxical anecdote), on the other hand, is designed to take us far beyond our regular way of thinking, in order to stop the analyzing and judging part of the mind. In reality, the koan is a riddle without an answer, which helps the practitioner develop intuition, instead of judging.

Summary

All three of these Yoga meditation techniques will help to quiet, center, and train your mind. As a result you are prepared for life’s many challenges. At the same time, you will create a connection with your own spiritual beauty. Although some practitioners prefer one style over another, there is no right or wrong path. Finally, each of us will choose a path, participate in meditation sessions, and experience positive results.

  1. I started doing meditation. I’ll try to do all of those three types of meditation. It’s making a big difference in my life and it’s very helpful to me, to give myself peace and calm. I’m thinking about meditation teacher training in the future. Thank you Paul for sharing this.
