Yoga is a science that aims at the harmonious development of the body, mind, and soul. It is a methodical way of attaining perfection, through control of the different elements of human nature, both physical and psychic. It is a process of continuous transformation. Inner perfection comes about gradually.
Practicing Yoga within the privacy and comfort of your own home after a busy day at work can definitely be relaxing. Many people do it directly before bedtime as a way to cleanse their minds and stretch their bodies. Others practice at the start of the day when their bodies are stiff from sleep. There is no right or wrong time to do Yoga; it is up to you to decide when you will get the most benefit from it.
As we practice Yoga training, we are more mindful of our bodies. That mindfulness can help us realize that we need to take care of our bodies more. That means making an effort to put healthy foods in our bodies and reduce the amount of unhealthy things we put into our system.
A yoga student will ideally have many yoga teachers in his or her lifetime. One teacher cannot act as an expert in all styles, modalities and afflictions, especially with the diversity of the human population, the human body and the number of options in yoga styles today.
As you begin to realize the benefit of practicing daily, it may become easier to streamline some other activities in order to schedule in your daily Yoga practice. If you find that it is difficult to get to a studio every day, there are a number of websites that offer Yoga classes online for a nominal monthly charge. These websites will allow you to practice at your convenience and in the comfort of your own home.
Yoga practices are based on an awakening of the divine awareness within our own beings. When this inner divinity is awakened and respected, that sense of respect radiates outward from the core of our beings to everything that we think and do. An egotistical Yoga teacher, who disrespects a student’s physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual capacities and challenges, is disrespecting the student at a very deep level and putting him or her at risk of harm during the class.
One concern that many people have with Yoga is that certain positions (asanas) could actually be harmful. Depending on the type of body one has, any posture could be beneficial or harmful. This is especially true with headstands. The truth is, you should talk with your doctor about your Yoga practice and this is very important.
Repeating a favorite series of asanas can really ground a practice and help focus, but sometimes Yoga training sessions can feel stale. Trying some new tricks can help even the most advanced Yoga practitioner see himself in a new light and make him look forward to his time on the mat.
