What are the best mantras for healing? We will discuss a handful of mantras, but there are many more. One of the primary components of Yoga practice is mantra repetition. That said, not all Yoga classes practice mantras. Those of us who practice mantra feel the benefits. Prayers, mantras, affirmations and singing help us keep hope alive in challenging times. According to Kundalini Yoga philosophy, each chakra is correlated with a seed sound or mantra. If you chant this seed mantra, the corresponding chakra will be activated and purified. The seed mantras can be chanted mentally or aloud. In a Yoga class, you would usually chant the mantras together, aloud, as a group.
If you are practicing the repetition of a mantras for healing internally, you may find using a mala helpful. A mala is a string of sacred beads that helps you to keep track of how many mantra repetitions you have completed. A mala also helps to focus your mind on the mantra practice. Mantra repetition is a very effective practice for activating the chakras because of the vibratory effect of the mantras on the energy vortexes, or chakras, themselves. Utilizing the power of chanting seed mantras is a great way to quickly change and elevate your energetic state.
Listed, below, are some of the best mantras for healing and most well-loved mantras used in Yoga practice. These mantras will help to activate, cleanse, and balance your energy body, by directly affecting the chakra system. The mantras also balance and nourish your endocrine system.
* Namo Guru Dev Namo
This mantra is often used to commence a Kundalini Yoga class. It is chanted at least three times, in a row, and invokes the power of the primordial Guru to banish the darkness in our own beings and align us with the divine source within.
* Aad Guray Nameh
This mantra is known as the Mangala Charan Mantra and is a mantra of protection. Singing it creates a buffer of light around the Yogi or Yogini. It is usually sung directly after the Namo Guru Dev Namo mantra.
* Sat Nam
This is a beautiful and simple seed mantra that is often sung during Yoga training sessions. It evokes the divine energy, in supporting the practitioner, in aligning his or her life choices with the highest truth. Sat means universal truth, and Nam indicates the trajectory from the infinite to the finite individual, and then back to the infinite source. Among the mantras for healing this two syllable mantra is a perfect addition to your holistic toolbox.
* Siri Guru Dev Eh Nameh
The translation of this mantra is: “I bow down in reverence to the creative power of the Kundalini Shakti, the divine mother power of the universe.” It is a beautiful way to close your Yoga practice.
Mantras for practice are a valuable aspect of self-healing and complete well being. Mantras for healing can also focus the mind and control chattering thoughts by making us focus on a positive thought or feeling. In challenging times, anything that brings positive energy into the body and mind is a good thing. Students who gain positive energy from prayer, affirmations, or singing will benefit from mantras for healing.
Side Note for Teachers
Many meditation practitioners work with mantras for healing. One method is to focus on a mantra, while random thoughts come and go. The practitioner observes the thought, but resumes mantra practice without taking ownership of mind chatter. Many Yoga teachers practice mindfulness meditation these days, but it’s worth your time to explore mantra meditation on a deeper level. You could consider it to be another method to reach states of inner calm.
