Is Yoga for coping with change effective? An old quote states, “the only thing constant in life is change.” If change is inevitable, why is it so difficult for us to accept? Could our perceptions and stories we tell ourselves determine our reactions? Could Yoga hold the keys we need to cope with change without succumbing to stress?
Physical World
According to traditional Yogic science, we live in two worlds: the physical and the spiritual. Our minds and bodies are the agents we use to create change in the physical world. Some consequences for every action propel us toward or away from our sacred calling.
Spiritual World
In the spiritual realm, we have an innate knowledge of what we need to do to live authentic, purposeful lives. When our material and non-material worlds align, we are in a position to reach our highest potential – to answer the quintessential question of “Who am I?” When we are out of sync, we expose ourselves to discontent and disease.
Vedic Scriptures
“Yoga” comes from the Sanskrit word for “union” and refers to the science of uniting human awareness with divine reality. Based on ancient Vedic scriptures, Yoga provides the tools we need to cope with the stress of change in our physical bodies and our environment. The Vedas are a collection of ancient Indian texts that are some of the oldest scriptures. They contain a wealth of knowledge on various topics, including yoga.
Traditional Guidance for Coping Today
The Vedas guide how to live a productive and fulfilling life and how to cope with change. Yoga is mentioned several times in the Vedas and is seen as a way to promote physical and mental well-being. The Vedas recommend yoga for those who want to cope with change in their lives, as it can help to calm the mind and body. Yoga can also help to increase physical and mental flexibility, which can be helpful when adapting to new situations.
Material World
Over the centuries, our stories have too often focused on material acquisitions and ego-dominated power struggles. In doing so, we have separated ourselves from our higher consciousness, from nature, and each other. At the lowest level, we have created discord in our own lives; at the highest level, we have contributed to problems within our culture and, ultimately, our world. The price we have paid for this separation is fear, violence, war, materialism, and pollution.
Power to Change
Imagine the difference we could make if our personal and global stories centered on love, gratitude, and compassion. Mahatma Gandhi summed up the essence of Yogic philosophy when he said, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” Just as we have created our tales of woe and despair, we can create new ones of peace and love. We can only change ourselves; in doing so, we can change the world.
Using Yoga Science to Cope with Change
Change is inevitable. It is a natural part of life that we all must experience. While change can be difficult, there are ways to cope with it. Yoga science can help us to deal with change in a healthy way. Yoga teaches us that change is okay. It is a normal part of life, and we should not resist it. Instead, we should flow with it. This does not mean we should be passive and let things happen to us. We should still be active participants in our lives.
The Worry Trap
We should also be open to change and accept it when it comes. Yoga also teaches us to be present and look for solutions. This is important when dealing with change because it can be easy to get trapped in worrying about the future or dwelling on the past. If we are present, we can better deal with whatever changes come our way. Practicing yoga regularly can help us to cope with change in a healthy way. It can teach us to accept change, be present in the moment, and flow with it instead of resisting it.
Yoga Helps us Cope with Change
As we all know, change is inevitable. No matter how much we may resist it, change is always happening around us. While some changes can be positive and exciting, others can be stressful and difficult to adjust to. Fortunately, there are many ways that yoga can help us cope with change. Here are just a few:
1. Yoga helps us to become more aware of our thoughts and feelings. When we can observe our thoughts and feelings without judgment, we can more easily let go of the negative ones holding us back from experiencing true happiness.
2. Yoga helps us develop greater self-awareness and inner calm. When we can tap into our inner strength and peace, we’re better equipped to handle whatever changes come our way.
3. Yoga helps us to relax and release tension from the body. When we’re feeling stressed, our bodies tend to tighten up. Yoga can help to release that tension and promote a sense of physical and mental relaxation.
4. Yoga helps us to build resilience. Every time we step on the mat and practice yoga, we develop our ability to handle whatever life throws. Over time, this can help us create a greater capacity for coping with change.
5. Yoga helps us connect with others. When we join a yoga class or community, we instantly have a built-in support system of people who understand what we’re going through.
