Chair Yoga at Aura Wellness Center
Our director of Teacher Training, Dr. Paul Jerard, E-RYT 500, YACEP began teaching Chair Yoga in the early 1990s. Before that, chair-based classes were developed as a way to make the benefits of yoga accessible to people who could not stand or sit on the floor for long periods of time – such as the elderly or anyone with limited mobility. In 2003, Dr. Paul began training teachers in the art of Chair Yoga.
Since then, chair yoga has become an increasingly popular form of yoga, practiced by people of all ages and abilities. In recent years, there has been a surge in interest in chair yoga teacher training courses, as more and more people discover the many benefits of this type of yoga.
The Benefits of Chair Yoga
When it comes to yoga, there are many different benefits that can be achieved. However, not all yoga is created equal. Chair yoga is a unique form of yoga that offers a variety of benefits, especially for those who may not be able to participate in traditional yoga due to physical limitations.
Here are some of the top benefits of chair yoga:
1. Improves flexibility and range of motion – One of the main benefits of chair yoga is that it can help to improve your flexibility and range of motion. This is because chair yoga focuses on gentle stretching and moving your body in ways that you may not be able to do with traditional yoga.
2. Reduces stress and anxiety – Another great benefit of chair yoga is that it can help to reduce stress and anxiety levels. This is because chair yoga helps to quiet the mind and focus on the present moment. This can lead to a reduction in stress and anxiety levels overall.
3. Increases strength and stamina – In addition to improving flexibility, chair yoga can also help to increase your strength and stamina over time. This is because chair yoga uses your own body weight as resistance, which can help to tone your muscles and build strength over time.
4. Boosts energy levels – If you’re feeling tired or low on energy, chair yoga may be just what you need! Chair yoga can help to boost energy levels by increasing circulation and oxygen flow throughout the body. This can leave you feeling refreshed.
Who Can Do Chair Yoga?
Chair yoga is an excellent option for people of all ages and fitness levels. It’s especially beneficial for those who have limited mobility or are new to yoga. If students have any chronic health conditions, they should be sure to consult with a doctor before starting any new exercise routine.

Jeanne S. Valenti –
I received my Certification for Chair Yoga at the end of March, 2018. I found this course to be excellent and it taught me a lot about Yoga and myself. It wasn’t easy for a 76 yr young to take this course. It involved a
lot of time, energy and effort but it was so worth it. I had been practicing and learning about yoga for
fifteen years. This course rounded out my knowledge and gave me more confidence. Teaching has become so much more enjoyable and easier. It has wetted my appetite to learn more and more about
yoga’s secrets.
I thank you so much for the opportunity Aura Wellness gave me to better my career and my practice.
If you are willing to put in the work and if you are a self-starter this course is for you. The materials for this
course are superior. I would recommend this course even for veteran yoga instructors.
