Benefits of Online Yoga Teacher Training

benefits of online yoga teacher trainingBy Sangeetha Saran and Kathryn Boland

What are the benefits of online yoga teacher training? Whether you are a seasoned Yoga instructor, who needs to update your certification or expand your continuing education, or you are just researching training to become an instructor, there are so many advantages to online Yoga teacher certification.

Convenient Teacher Training

One of the benefits of yoga instructor training online is the convenience factor. You can complete the coursework at your own pace and on your schedule. This is especially helpful for people who have full-time jobs or other commitments that make it difficult to attend traditional in-person classes. Online courses are also more affordable than in-person classes, so they are a great option for people on a budget.

Save Expenses

One of the biggest advantages of taking Yoga classes online is the cost. The base price of on-site Yoga teacher training can cost anywhere from $3,000 to $15,000, depending on which institution offers the training. The average cost for online yoga teacher training is often less than $1,000, and some are less than $500.

The cost of in-person instruction also includes hidden costs that must be added to the tuition cost of the training course. Hidden costs would include the cost of tutoring, study materials, membership, application, enrollment fees, and other hidden fees that the institution may choose to include. You do not have these additional hidden costs with online Yoga training.

Cost-Effective Option

One of the most significant advantages of online yoga teacher training is that it offers a cost-effective option for individuals who may not have the financial resources to attend in-person training. Traditional yoga teacher training can be quite expensive, often requiring travel expenses, accommodation costs, and hefty tuition fees. You can save on these expenses with online training programs while still receiving high-quality instruction.

Opting for an online program eliminates the need to travel or relocate for your training. This means no additional costs for flights or accommodations. Furthermore, many online programs offer flexible payment options and installment plans, making it easier to manage your finances.

Additionally, since online programs typically have lower overhead costs than physical studios or retreat centers, they can pass these savings onto their students through more affordable tuition fees. Without breaking the bank, you’ll still receive a comprehensive curriculum and guidance from experienced teachers.

Saving money doesn’t mean compromising on quality either – many reputable yoga schools now offer well-designed and structured online programs that meet all necessary standards and requirements for accreditation. So, if you’re looking for a budget-friendly way to pursue your passion for teaching yoga without sacrificing quality education, consider enrolling in an online yoga teacher training program.

No Lodging Costs

If you choose online Yoga teacher training, you will not have the additional expenses of time away from work or traveling to and from class. Online Yoga teacher courses allow you to study and train from the comfort of your own home. You don’t need to worry about lodging and traveling expenses as you would with on-site training. Also, if you have family obligations, by taking online classes, you will still be able to care for your family. You may have to plan and pay for childcare if you were away.

Convenient Schedule

By taking online Yoga instructor certification courses, you will have access to tutoring via telephone or email. When taking face-to-face courses, you would most likely have to schedule a tutoring session. If you’re taking online courses, tutoring is available at any time.

This is convenient because you don’t have to interrupt your schedule for a tutoring schedule. Online Yoga instructor training offers flexibility. Your time is valuable when you have obligations.

Most people cannot drop everything to take a year to attend Yoga instructor certification courses. Online courses offer you the flexibility that you need to maintain your busy lifestyle while still getting the instruction you need to achieve your goals.

No Worries About Travel

With classroom study, your instructor may prohibit you from using a recording device. However, with online yoga teacher training, you are allowed to use any record-keeping device you choose.

By taking online Yoga instructor courses, you are helping the environment. This is because you are not traveling to class, causing more air pollution and using up natural resources. One of the benefits of getting your yoga teacher training online is that you don’t have to worry about traveling.

This means that you can save money on accommodation and food. It also means that you can train in your own time and at your own pace. You can choose to do the training in one go or spread it out over a few months. There are also no set times for the training, so you can do it whenever you have the time.

Archives for Teachers, Interns, and Students

Years ago, people learned from scrolls. These days, we have the Internet to project ideas across distances. It is important for an online yoga teacher training center to have information about various teaching situations. The internet has opened up a world of possibilities regarding education.

One of the advantages of online learning is that it is very flexible. You can study at your own pace and in your own time. This means that you can fit your studies around your work and other commitments.

Another advantage of online learning is that you can access a wealth of resources anywhere. You can also connect with other students and teachers from around the globe, making learning more fun and engaging.

Overcoming Challenges of Online Training

While online yoga teacher training offers many benefits, it has challenges. One of the main concerns for students is the lack of direct in-person interaction with teachers and fellow trainees. However, this obstacle can be overcome through effective communication tools such as video conferencing and discussion forums.

Another challenge is maintaining discipline and motivation when studying remotely. Without a physical classroom environment, it can be easy to get distracted or procrastinate. To combat this, creating a dedicated study space and setting specific goals can help maintain focus throughout the course.

Technical issues can also arise during online training. Slow internet connections or device compatibility problems may hinder course materials or live session access. Having reliable technology and troubleshooting issues promptly ensures a smooth learning experience.

Virtual Learning Tools

Some students may feel isolated while participating in an online program. The absence of face-to-face interactions might make connecting with classmates or receiving immediate instructor feedback harder. Actively engaging in virtual discussions and seeking peer support can help alleviate feelings of isolation.

Hands-on practice may pose a challenge when learning yoga poses virtually. While demonstrations on video tutorials are helpful, receiving personalized adjustments from an instructor would typically be more accessible in an in-person setting. However, many programs offer interactive elements like live Q&A sessions or one-on-one virtual coaching to address these concerns.

Despite these challenges, they should not deter aspiring yogis from pursuing online teacher training opportunities. By staying proactive, utilizing available resources effectively, and embracing the unique aspects of remote learning platforms, individuals can successfully overcome these obstacles on their journey toward becoming certified yoga teachers.

Food for Thought

It might not be the time for those students, but that time is coming. If yogic teachings have resonated, it is beautiful. You’ve brought your students to the edge of the shore of the vast ocean of knowledge, discovery, and potential for lasting wellness that is yoga.

Online yoga teacher training makes sharing deep concepts possible over large distances. At the same time, we can cover every foundational aspect of practice, while deeper aspects can be discussed with a teacher trainer.

Benefits of an Online YTT

By Kimaya Singh and Sangeetha Saran

Are you passionate about yoga and dreaming of becoming a certified teacher? Well, the good news is that you can now achieve your dreams from the comfort of your home with online yoga teacher training. Gone are the days when aspiring yogis had to travel far and wide to attend in-person training programs. With advancements in technology, online learning has become more accessible than ever before. Let’s explore the numerous benefits of online yoga teacher training and why it might be the perfect option for you.

Convenient Benefits of Online Yoga Teacher Training

Convenience and flexibility are two key benefits of online yoga teacher training. With traditional in-person training, you must often adhere to a set schedule and location. This can be challenging for individuals with busy lifestyles or those who live in remote areas.

Online training allows you to learn at your own pace and on your schedule. You can access the course materials from anywhere, whether from the comfort of your home or while traveling. This flexibility enables you to fit your training into your existing commitments without sacrificing other important aspects of your life.

Another advantage is that online programs often offer lifetime access to course materials. This means that even after completing the training, you can revisit the content whenever you need a refresher or want to delve deeper into certain topics.

Additionally, many online YTT programs provide recorded sessions or modules that allow students to watch and practice at their convenience. This is especially beneficial for individuals who cannot attend live classes due to time zone differences or conflicting schedules.

The convenience and flexibility offered by online yoga teacher training make it an attractive option for anyone looking for a more accessible way of embarking on their teaching journey.

Personalized Learning Experience

One of the key benefits of online yoga teacher training is the opportunity for a personalized learning experience. Unlike traditional in-person training, where you may be one among many students, online programs often offer individualized attention and tailored instruction.

With online training, you can learn at your own pace and focus on areas that interest you the most. Whether deepening your understanding of specific yoga poses or exploring different meditation techniques, you can customize your learning journey according to your unique needs and goals.

Online platforms also provide access to various resources such as videos, tutorials, e-books, and interactive quizzes. You can choose which materials resonate with you best and engage with them in a way that suits your preferred learning style.

Many online yoga teacher training programs offer coaching sessions with experienced instructors. This personal guidance allows for direct feedback on your practice and teaching skills, ensuring that you receive targeted support and guidance throughout your training journey.

Furthermore, online communities provide opportunities for connection with fellow trainees from all around the world. Through discussion forums or virtual meet-ups, you can share insights, ask questions, and collaborate on projects with like-minded individuals passionate about yoga.

The personalized learning experience offered by online yoga teacher training empowers individuals to tailor their education according to their preferences while receiving individualized attention from experienced instructors. It opens new avenues for growth, discussion, collaboration, and self-discovery in an inclusive global community.

Access to Experienced Teachers

One of the significant benefits of online yoga teacher training is the opportunity to learn from experienced teachers. In a traditional training setting, you might be limited to the expertise and knowledge of your local instructors. However, with online training platforms, you have access to renowned yoga teachers from around the world.

These experienced teachers bring a wealth of wisdom and insights that can enhance your learning journey. They have spent years honing their craft and can offer valuable guidance on various aspects of yoga practice, teaching techniques, alignment principles, and philosophy.

Through virtual classes and workshops led by these seasoned instructors, you can deepen your understanding of yoga asanas (poses), pranayama (breathing exercises), meditation techniques, and more. Their expertise allows for personalized feedback and corrections explicitly tailored to your needs.

Moreover, many online programs also provide recorded sessions or downloadable resources to revisit teachings whenever needed. This flexibility ensures that even after completing the training program, you continue benefiting from the teachings of these experienced professionals.

In addition to live classes and recordings, some online platforms create a supportive environment for growth where students can ask questions directly related to their practice or teaching aspirations.

Access to experienced teachers in an online yoga teacher training program elevates the quality of education received. It broadens horizons by exposing students to different styles and perspectives within the vast realm of yoga while providing invaluable support throughout their journey toward becoming skilled instructors.

Global Community and Network

Being a part of an online yoga teacher training program opens up the opportunity to connect with individuals worldwide. You can join a global community of like-minded yogis through virtual platforms who share your passion for yoga and teaching.

The beauty of this global network is that it transcends geographical boundaries, allowing you to learn from teachers and fellow students from various cultures and backgrounds. This diversity enriches your learning experience by exposing you to different perspectives, techniques, and philosophies.

Interacting with a diverse group enhances your knowledge and broadens your horizons. You can engage in discussions, ask questions, seek guidance, and receive feedback from people with unique insights based on their experiences.

Moreover, being part of a global community provides ongoing support even after completing the online training program. You can remain connected with your peers through social media groups or online forums to continue sharing resources, ideas, and challenges faced as teachers and celebrate each other’s successes.

Building connections within this network may open doors to future opportunities, such as collaborations on workshops or retreats across different locations. The possibilities are endless when you become part of a vibrant international yoga community.

So go ahead and embrace the benefits of joining an online yoga teacher training program – immerse yourself in a supportive global network that will inspire personal and professional growth.

Accreditation and Certification

Accreditation and certification are essential aspects of any yoga teacher training program, whether online or in person. These credentials validate your knowledge and skills and enhance your credibility as a yoga instructor.

When choosing an online yoga teacher training program, it is crucial to ensure that the course is accredited by reputable organizations such as Yoga Alliance. This accreditation ensures that the curriculum meets specific standards and guidelines set by industry experts.

By completing an accredited online yoga teacher training program, you can be confident that you receive quality education and instruction. You will learn from experienced teachers trained to deliver practical online classes.

Additionally, obtaining certification through an accredited program opens up opportunities for employment at various wellness centers, gyms, and studios or even allows you to start your private practice. Many employers require proof of certification before hiring instructors.

Furthermore, certification through an accredited program provides peace of mind to potential clients seeking qualified yoga teachers. It assures them that you have undergone proper training and possess the necessary skills to guide their practice safely.

Accreditation and certification play a vital role in ensuring the quality and credibility of online yoga teacher training programs. They provide validation for both instructors and students alike while opening doors for professional opportunities in yoga instruction.

Tips for Choosing the Right Program

1. Research and compare: Research different online yoga teacher training programs to find the one that best suits your needs. Look for programs that offer comprehensive curriculum, experienced instructors, and positive reviews from past participants.

2. Consider your goals: Consider why you want to become a yoga teacher and what you hope to gain from the training program. Are you looking to deepen your own practice or start a new career? Understanding your goals will help guide your decision-making process.

3. Check accreditation and certification: Choosing a program accredited by a reputable organization such as Yoga Alliance is essential. This ensures that the training meets certain standards of quality and professionalism.

4. Assess teaching style: Every instructor has their own teaching style, so choosing a program with an approach that resonates with you is essential. Some trainers may focus more on alignment and technique, while others prioritize spirituality or holistic well-being.

5. Evaluate the support system: Find out what kind of support is offered during the program – whether there are opportunities for mentorship or additional assistance if needed.

6. Consider logistics: Consider practical considerations such as time commitment, class schedule flexibility, and any technical requirements (e.g., reliable internet connection).

Remember, choosing the right online yoga teacher training program is crucial for ensuring a fulfilling learning experience that aligns with your goals and values.

Open Your Mind to Opportunities

After an online YTT program, you have many options to consider. Have you ever reflected on the differences between yoga classes and the other forms of modern fitness classes? Do you set your classes apart in how you teach? Contemporary gyms and fitness studios classes range from Barre to Bootcamp to Cycling.

These classes can be wonderful ways for people to exercise under a knowledgeable instructor and get energized, gain confidence, and enjoy a social support system. Yet yoga is different; it’s more than just what you do with your body and the mental aspects supporting it.

It’s about what you carry off the mat with you – breathing to help keep you emotionally balanced, lessons in how to treat yourself and others better, the importance of rest to let the effects of work soak in (and its necessity for all living beings), and so much more. It is truly a lifestyle.

Ideas for Reaching Other Crowds

No other modern fitness class can compare in this regard (Pilates likely comes the closest, with a mindful approach to breath and holistically balanced movement, but certainly without thousands of years of wisdom behind it). How could the teaching style be the same and remain true to all that yoga is?

This is not to put down non-yoga modern fitness instructors, forms, or classes. As stated above, they’re wonderful things in many people’s lives. Yoga doesn’t resonate with everyone, and that’s okay.

I would much rather have those people in a Zumba class or lifting weights than not connecting with their bodies’ potential. Sedentary lifestyles are the main driver of the public health crises of obesity, mental health issues, chronic inflammation-based illnesses, and more.

Yoga is Different

Yet yoga is more than just a healthy movement; we shouldn’t teach it like it is solely that. Here are four ways to incorporate yogic practices and wisdom while giving students the “workout” they might have come for.

After some time, they may come for more than that. At any point, you, as a yoga instructor, have tools for offering them it all – maybe without them fully realizing what you’ve offered them.

Pair Breath and Movement

For instance, offer flows such as Anjaneyasana (Low Lunge) to Ardha Hanumanasana (Half Split), guide breaths in with the former and breaths out with the latter. The same can happen with wide-legged Half-Split and Lizard Lunge. Please be sure to remind students to keep proper toe-ankle-knee-hip alignment. As a result, students are free to engage in stillness and avoid joint pain.

A similar pairing is breathing in with Ardha Uttanasana (Halfway Lift) and out with Uttanasana (Standing Forward Fold), as part of a Sun Salutation or as a flow on its own (repeated perhaps 3-4 times).

Looking Deep

In longer-held poses, you can cue students to find refinement and nuance of the pose by finding more spinal length with inhales and softening with exhales. All of this helps enhance the positive effects of asana and demonstrates to students the power of breathwork for whole-person health – a system found in the Limb of Pranayama. However conscious or subconscious, that insight can be a gateway for interest in other aspects of the yogic lifestyle (found in yet other Limbs).

Share a Theme that Connects with Yogic Wisdom

Another of the many benefits of YTT online training is embracing your creativity. This is possible by framing a yogic message in a way that connects with the predominant movement, poses, and even mudras that you include in the class, the season, current events that might be on everyone’s mind, et cetera.

One can also read a short poem or passage from writers such as Patanjali, Rumi, and various Swamis. Build your yoga library with books from which you can pull these kinds of theme-building passages (as well as for all other benefits that doing so confers). Such texts can also kick-start ideas for building themes from poses, flows, mudraspranayama patterns, etc.

Theme Ideas

Other teachers’ themes in classes that you take can also spur your ideas. Certainly, refrain from intellectual theft, but it’s completely legitimate (and beneficial) to let others’ themes inspire your own. All in all, Yoga class themes can help open up students’ awareness of how much physical practice is intertwined with life off the mat, and from that, work at practicing yogic values outside of practice itself. It can help engage their minds and hearts as their bodies work through physical practice.

Use Props in Ways that Say Something More

Among the many wonderful things about props is their versatility. They can be used to safely enhance the intensity of physical practice and support the execution of something that would otherwise be inaccessible.

Either way, they convey the message that accepting help is okay. It’s smart. Yoga poses are the same in online teacher training classes worldwide, but each practitioner’s practice can be unique – and that which props can uniquely support.

Positive Benefits of Online Yoga Teacher Training

All these truths that props put forth when we instructors can meaningfully frame them help reinforce teachings of yogic values – such as truthfulness, acceptance, non-violence, and respect for all beings.

At the same time, students are receiving a very physically healthy practice. If the deeper yogic teachings don’t quite resonate, at least they’ve received that, and (so long as the physical practice is moderated and physically safe) it’s all a net positive.

Summary

Online yoga teacher training offers a multitude of benefits for aspiring yogis. Whether seeking convenience and flexibility in your learning schedule or seeking a cost-effective option, online training provides the ideal platform to deepen your practice and expand your knowledge.

With personalized learning experiences tailored to your specific needs, access to experienced teachers from around the world, and the opportunity to connect with fellow students in a global community, online training opens up new possibilities for growth and development.

Additionally, obtaining accreditation and certification through an online program ensures that you receive recognized credentials that can enhance your professional opportunities as a yoga teacher.

While there may be challenges associated with virtual learning, such as a lack of hands-on guidance and potential distractions at home, these obstacles can be overcome with dedication, discipline, and instructor support. Choosing the right program is crucial for an online yoga teacher training journey. Research various options thoroughly before ensuring they align with your goals and values.
